Perhaps we should get past the time of Politics as team sports?
Or: What the heck, one more snowball into hell ain't gonna hurt!
This is yet another post that I likely should not bother doing…but I do think some things need saying (possibly fostering thought and discussion) regardless of the predictable backlash.
Anyway, in thinking about this, I finally realized at least one reason (perhaps two) why folks just double down on their respective world views, like “Biden is sharp as a tack!” or “Trump is a fiscal genius!.” 1-Not much thought is required, just go along with whatever the “team” is saying. 2-Popping ones head up about anything these days will likely get one gang tackled, but at least if you stay fully on one team, you only get gang tackled from one direction.
What I did above, mentioning both Trump and Biden in one go, is like tying honey-covered steaks to my backside and taking a stroll through Yellowstone park in the fall.
Thus far, I’ve not found a team I particularly like other than perhaps Ron Paul, Thomas Massie and a number of dead historical figures. Otherwise, my “team” has been determined largely by the folks who seem to make the least bad sense and (surprisingly) the team that does not insist I’m a: racist, colonizer, breeder etc, etc bc I’m a white, straight male with the temerity to marry a woman and have children.
It’s honestly kinda low standards for me! But I’m getting off track.
This is, I think, I pretty important piece about Trump’s approach to our current economic situation:
It’s long, but do yourself a favor and read it all.
It’s not pretty. And in many regards, our situation is beyond anyone’s ability to “fix.” One can make the case that when Nixon took the US off the gold standard in 1971 a fuse was lit, and that fuse always finds its way to the bomb of economic implosion at some point. It’s remarkable our system has lasted this long. It might last a good bit longer before major upheaval occurs, but if you think about all of this like a pile of sand being fed from dropping particles from above, we have achieved a sand pile that is shockingly high, and literally only one sand grain at the right place, right time, is necessary to cause a major adjustment.
Back to that piece, perhaps my greatest gripe with Trump is his characterization that things are peachy, and we are just about ready to start paying down our massive national debt etc, etc. I so incredibly wish that were the case, but it most likely is not. For the Mega-MAGA folks who are going to come after me for even a hint of negativity about what’s happening, I hope DJT’s economic prowess is literally supernatural and we thread this needle and shit is just great. I don’t think that’s the case and that’s why I’m popping my head up here to hopefully get folks thinking a bit about contingencies and to just be ready if/when things take a (historically) predictable turn. Even if you are in a tough economic spot, you can at least be mentally prepared vs dealing with the shock of a major upheaval and THEN trying to come up with a gameplan.
This is likely nothing more than a snowball into hell, one that will get me negative comments, snarky emails to the CX of my respective business endeavors, but early in my life I decided that my charter for living was to be of service and to do what I can to mitigate suffering. If this post helped one person, it was worth it.

Trumps constant attacks on Thomas Massie irk me as he is one of the very few people in government talking sense.
Well said, and I agree with you.
