Hey Folks!
Diana Rodgers and I had the good fortune to be invited onto the Joe Rogan Experience to talk (mainly) about our book and film, Sacred Cow.
We were supposed to go on last year, right at this time, but the Snowpocalapse that struck Texas scuttled those plans.
I don’t often shake y’all down for specific asks, but I’ll make a few here:
-Give the podcast a listen. There is a lot of important material there that gets effectively no airplay anywhere other than the book and film. We cover the health, environmental and ethical considerations of a meat inclusive food system…that’s a lot to unpack and you just do not get that breadth and depth many other places.
As time goes forward, as covid slowly becomes both less newsworthy and less of a credible topic for controlling all of us, the focus of control will shift to climate change. This will take on two main areas of focus, energy in general and the role of meat in our food systems. Some will scoff at this…I’d be inclined to let them scoff but thier lack of vision will unfortunately negatively impact all of us. As it is we have been bullied and strong armed to: close businesses, wear masks, take experimental therapeutics…all in the name of “doing what’s right for the people around us.” I’m actually a good team player, but only when things make sense and things stopped making sense a loooong time ago. We will be harassed for eating meat because it is painted as a major vector of climate change. It.Is.Not But God Damn if it’s not a lot of work to unpack all of that in a credible way.
-Buy the book. Sacred Cow is a great book. Yes, I have self interest in you believe that, at least long enough to part with some cash for it, but it’s a fantastic book. If you are not that fired up for the sustainability material, the health section of the book is likely the best nutrition material I have in print. The reason why is likely due to the fact I only focused on the practical application piece, not a lot of background theory.
-Watch the film. Sacred Cow the film is quite different from the book. It clearly covers the same ideas, but in a more emotive, less clinical way. You may know someone who is concerned about these topic (who isn’t right?) but who is just not ready to sink their teeth into a book. The film is perfect. Here is a trailer to whet your whistle:
So….I don’t usually do the hard sell, “buy muh stuff” shtick, but I am kinda doing that now, and I’m honestly doing it for…well, YOU. If you feel like you benefit from animal sourced foods, you have a fight on your hands. And almost no one is out in front of this trying to get a counter position to what the media, Bill Gates, Social media etc have suggested is “settled science.” We’ve seen how quickly personal liberties could go sideways under covid, that’s coming our way in the guise of mitigating climate change and it it all going to be wrapped in messaging of “eat less meat to save the planet.” There are absolutely folks in this larger “ancestral health” space that are doing good work by having these discussions, but it’s not universals by any means. Many of the popular kids in the low carb space cannot be bothered to tackle this regenerative ag topic as it will get them uninvited from Berkeley and New York cocktail parties. One takes a lot of heat and is called some very nasty things for just suggesting that meat is not the primary (or significant) driver of climate change. All of that has come about because too many have taken an entirely unexamined dive into woke social justice topics. I’m not even sure what to say on that topic other than the path to hell is paved on good intentions.
So, thank you for your support, the fact you’ve signed up for this substack means a lot to me. Let me know what you think about the show, book and film….and lets figure out how to push back against ALL of this.
When I read the Paleo Solution there was one line in the book that made me a Robb Wolf fan for life. It’s a line of thinking that we desperately needed these last two years. I don’t remember it exactly but you said something to the effect of this is what we believe right now about gluten but if in the future we get some science that changes our minds we reserve the right to do so. It was that simple for me and why I trust you are right about so many things related to food and environment. All of you who stand up and in the way of massive corporate and political interests are heroes.
